The Crab House is an “anthropomorphic” dwelling inspired by a crab, reflected in the shape of its stilts. The architecture developed vertically as a response to preserve as much as possible the existing on-site garden.
The project is focused on maximizing the space of very limited plots of land on Fire Island, New York, a community of summer homes off the southern coast of Long Island. The use of the ground floor as a “loggia” and the rooftop as a solarium in this house emphasizes the importance of recreational space for socializing and entertaining, but also private outdoor areas for relaxation
and reconnection to nature.
